Our Core Team

In 2012, a small church team from Maryland visited Uganda. They witnessed both the challenges and resilience of communities in the western region where they were assisting Pastor Moses Nkwatsibwe. Sustainable Missions Inc. (SMI) was founded the following year. Since then, SMI has become a beacon of hope—bringing clean water, expanding education, empowering widows, and advancing sustainable farming across the Ibanda, Kamwenge, and Kitagwenda districts. Supported by dedicated staff and generous partners, thousands of lives have been transformed.

 Paul & Mary Foster

The Fosters have lived in Maryland all of their married lives. They’ve raised 4 daughters and continue to support their families as they raise Paul and Mary’s six grandchildren.

They began serving in Kiburara, Western Uganda in 2011. After a decade of return visits, they built strong relationships and recognized significant spiritual and physical needs in the community.

After retirement, the Fosters committed to two years of full-time ministry and were later invited by Sustainable Missions Inc (SMI) to help guide its future.

Their goal is to make SMI sustainable and expand efforts to support the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of Ugandans through revenue-generating projects and partnerships.

Andrew & Joan Okello

The Okellos have spent most of their lives in the Kiburara and Kamwenge districts, where they are raising three daughters and one son while faithfully supporting their extended family.

In 2013, Andrew began working with Sustainable Missions in Kiburara, Western Uganda. Joan joined him after their marriage in 2017, and they continue to serve with the organization today. For over a decade, they have built deep, trusted relationships within the community while addressing both spiritual and physical needs.

Their passion is to see SMI grow and thrive through strong leadership, purposeful planning, and sustainable strategies that ensure a lasting impact for generations to come
